Friuli wines can be included with the wines of Tuscany, Piedmont and Veneto as Italy's top-ranking,
world-class wine products. Thanks to Slovenia and the Istrian Peninsula's geographic closeness, these wines manifest unmistakable Slavic and Austrian influences. Nearly two thirds of Friuli-Venezia Giulia labels enjoy DOC status, while the rest proudly display their DOCG labels. Fine white wines predominate
and are rated among Italy's best.
Friuli Wine Tour Program
Experience Friuli's top-rated wineries and see historic sites on this fascinating and informational full-day unique wine tour. Your private tour begins meeting our English speaking Guide at the Port of Triest.
Board our Deluxe Minibus or Coach (depending on the size of your group). You will discover not only the history of this Region:
(Trieste was the Austro-Hungarian Empire's only deep-harbor with access to global shipping lanes until 1918, an advantage point that created great wealth for this region throughout most of the 19th century. Three vibrant, creative cultures and languages intermingled locally: Austrian-German,Italian and Slavic. Christians, Jews, and Muslims lived and worked side-by-side peacefully for generations, and the city blossomed into a sophisticated, intellectual capital with grandiose architecture, and was widely noted for its musical and literary life. In 1920, two years after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Trieste became a part of Italy, but quickly lost its cultural and commercial relevance in Europe's new, post-war order. One visits Trieste today to hear the echoes of its rich past, for the imposing and unspoilt mountainous hinterland of the entire Friuli-Venezia Giulia region...and of course, for the region's wines.)
